Brothers, Steve and Dwight Abbott started Modern Furniture in January of 2003 in Newport, Vermont. They both graduated from North Country Union High School in 1991. Second generation in the furniture business, Steve and Dwight grew up in the industry at an early age. Right out of high school, Steve purchased The Border Motel and Restaurant which he ran until he sold in 2002. Dwight however chose to enlist in the United States Air Force for nearly 8 years until 2000.

With their father retiring from the business left an opportunity for Steve and Dwight to start their own furniture store. So in late 2002, the brothers decided to start Modern Furniture and in January 2003 they opened the doors. They worked in the Newport location together until September of 2008 when they purchased their second location in Lyndonville, Vt formerly known as Wayside Furniture, now called Modern Furniture Rustics and Mattress Shop. In September of 2010, Steve and Dwight started their third location in Woodsville, New Hampshire called Modern Furniture and Mattress Outlet.

In August of 2012, we purchased our fourth store Stahler Furniture in Lyndonville, Vermont. And Lastly, in April 2013 we purchased our fifth furniture store Modern Furniture & Mattress. We strive in excellence, integrity and fair prices. Modern Furniture and Stahler Furniture offer a combined 80,000 square feet of furniture and have some similarities but yet very different.

The stores are all very close to one another which makes shopping for your home furnishings convenient and our service is like no other. We go above and beyond to make your shopping experience and furniture purchase the right one.

We know a happy customer is a returning customer so we make sure that everything goes well from start to finish. If we were to tell our customers one thing is everyone knows price matters but we focus on quality and service first. I believe that is what sets us apart as a small business in a large business world.
