Modern Furniture was founded in January 2003 in Newport, Vermont, by Steve Abbott. A 1991 graduate of North Country Union High School, Steve is a second-generation furniture businessman who grew up learning the industry from an early age.

After graduating from high school, Steve purchased The Border Motel and Restaurant, which he operated until selling the business in 2002. When his father retired from the furniture business, Steve saw an opportunity to follow in his family’s footsteps and open a store of his own. In January 2003, Modern Furniture officially opened its doors in Newport.

From the beginning, our mission has been simple: provide quality furniture, fair prices and exceptional customer service.

We believe buying furniture should be an enjoyable experience, and we go above and beyond to help our customers make the right choices for their homes. From the moment you walk through our doors to the delivery of your purchase, our goal is to make sure everything goes smoothly.

We know that a happy customer is a returning customer. While price will always matter, we believe quality, honesty and personal service are what truly set us apart.

As a locally owned business, we take pride in offering the kind of attention and care that can be hard to find in today’s world of large retailers. It’s that commitment to our customers and our community that has guided Modern Furniture since 2003.
